Music Theory Express
As many a music student and parent has discovered, it can be tricky to find time in a weekly music lesson to cover all the ground required to pass ABRSM Grade 5 Theory, a necessary step for those planning to progress to the higher performance grades, as well as a valuable grounding in the essentials of music theory for all. That's why I've devised an intensive Music Theory Express course, which covers the whole syllabus over two days, with additional support through marking past papers and a revision day built-in. These courses generally run in school holidays and in response to student demand, so if you are considering taking Grade 5 Theory and are interested in taking a course, get in touch. Any upcoming courses will also be listed below.

Easter 2019 Course
18-19 April, near Saffron Walden
Follow up day: 9 June
Cover all you need to know for the ABRSM Grade 5 Theory exam in an intensive and fun 2-day course, plus 1 day refresher with James Brady MMus (GSMD) MA (Cantab.) PGCert, teacher of Music Theory, Composition and Musicianship at Saffron Walden Centre for Young Musicians and Hockerill Anglo-European College.

Thu 18 & Fri 19 April, 10am-4pm
Plus refresher day
Sun 9th June 10am-3pm (just ahead of the exam date of 15th June)
The course and refresher will take place in Debden CB11 (near Saffron Walden, off the M11).
Working in a small group of 4-8 students, students will be introduced to all aspects of music theory required up to and including ABRSM grade 5. They will also at least begin work on a past paper by the end of the two-day course. After the course, students will complete at least 2 past papers which James will mark and return with comments in advance of the refresher day. Additional past papers can be marked with comments for £10 each.
In order to ensure students are ready for the exam, they should be fluent in either treble or bass clef, and commit to completing some independent study and past papers in between the first two days and the refresher, for which individual written guidance will be given.
"James is a creative, inspiring and thoughtful teacher...His students are engaged, and learn thoroughly and quickly as he tailors his teaching to individuals' experience. I thoroughly recommend James' teaching, whether the subject is theory, musicianship or jazz."
